After the loss of a parent, having the courage to move on doesn’t happen overnight. R&B newcomer Rileyy Lanez, who knows all this too well, welcomes her fallen father with a new track titled “When I See You (Lamont’s Song)” on his birthday.
The candid song, which she draws from the 2007 Fantasia hit single with a similar title, is a walk through Lanez’s life six years ago after losing her dad to gun violence. The night before his untimely death, she recounts moments shared between them. She also uses the song to send him family updates, such as how much her mother misses him and how he now has grandkids.

“Losing him was the biggest heartbreak I’ve ever dealt with it,” said Rileyy in a press statement. “It’s a different type of pain, a pain that a lot of us share. A song for you and your loss.”
With the new song, Lanez drops a corresponding music video. Watch it below.
Last year, Lanez burst on the scene with her debut EP Beautiful Mistakes. Since then, her commitment to music has led her to perform the official theme song (“Part of the Game”) for the upcoming Starz series, Power Book III: Kanan, alongside 50 Cent and NLE Choppa.
